Attract more birds and butterflies to your backyard
Cassowary Coast Regional Council (CCRC) is hosting another tree giveaway, starting next week.
There are four tree species available for residents to choose from.
Cassowary Coast Regional Council Program Support for Natural Environment Judy Murphy said the local native species range from small shrubs to larger rainforest trees.
"They are either perfumed or provide habitat and food for butterflies, birds and even fish," said Murphy.
The tree giveaway will be running from the Innisfail Council Nursery located at the corner of Campbell and Sundown Road or from the Tully Council Nursery located at the council depot, Anderson Street.
Everyone residing in the Cassowary Coast is eligible to receive two free trees on these days, however the trees must be collected in person.
The nurseries will be open for the giveaway from 8am to 3pm on Thursday 12th, Friday 13th, Thursday 19th and Friday 20th April.
Trees available are Cananga ordorata (Perfume Tree), Syzygium tierneyanum (River Cherry), Scolopia braunii (Brown Birch) and Antidesma bunius (Herbert River Cherry).
The council nurseries also have a large range of local native plants available and are able to provide advice on weed control, quick spray unit and pig trap hire.
