Classic cars on show this weekend
More than 30 classic cars will take to our roads this Sunday as part of the inaugural Tour de Cassowary.
Hosted by the Cassowary Coast Regional Council (CCRC) and Far North Queensland Restorers Club, local and out of town classic cars and bikes will tour along the scenic routes of Kurrimine Beach, Mission Beach, Silkwood, Mena Creek and Innisfail.
Cassowary Coast Acting Mayor Wayne Kimberley said this event is a great way to boost the local economy.
“We anticipate this event bringing in almost 100 people from outside our region which will help to inject money into our economy,” said Cr Kimberley.
“It will also give our locals an opportunity to enjoy seeing a variety of classic cars.”
The Tour de Cassowary will run in three stages, kicking off from Rankin Street in Innisfail at 8.00am on Sunday.
“The public is encouraged come down to the start line out the front of the Innisfail Shire Hall and watch the old cars scoot off on their tour while they can enjoy breakfast at either the Queens Hotel or Sapore Di Italia,” said Restorers Club member Allan Blair.
“Or you can drop into one of the tour check points as the cars will be at Kurrimine Beach between 9.30am to 10.30am, Mission Beach from 12.00pm until 2.00pm, regrouping in front of Castaways Resort before they start the run through Silkwood to Mena Creek,” said Mr Blair.
The cars will return intermittently to Innisfail’s Anzac Park from 4pm for a trophy presentation where the public is welcome to attend.
