Customer Service Extraordinaire Wins Award
Melissa Sendra of the Cassowary Coast Regional Council was awarded the 2017 Trainee of the Year at the Skill 360 Australia Employment and Training Awards held in Cairns last month.
The traineeship has allowed her to gain valuable hands-on experience and further hone her skills by participating in online training that will result in a Certificate III in Business.
Since joining the Council in January 2017, Sendra has embraced the challenges of working in the rates department and customer service.
“I find it very satisfying when I am able to solve a problem for someone. I’m thoroughly enjoying the challenge of working in the rates department. It’s quite a unique area and I’ve learnt all about the different elements of rates and the impact they have on a property including water, waste management, buyer levies and water meters,’ she said.
She said the biggest learning curve has been familiarising herself with all the processes and procedures together with understanding the CCRC rates management system.
“Participating in the CCRC Traineeship program has allowed me to gain valuable experience. It’s been a pleasure to learn from my Supervisors Carly Di Maggio and Kelly Vick who have also mentored me. Their patience and kindness has been truly amazing.”
Mayor John Kremastos said Sendra was a shining example of how young talented staff are being nurtured within the organisation.
“Melissa has proven to be a real asset to her team and her enthusiasm, dedication and willingness to step up is a credit to her. It is further proof that traineeships are providing great career opportunities for young people in our region,” he added.
