Johnstone River Community Gardens Event this Sunday
Sunday, November 5 is the date for the next public picnic at the Johnstone River Community Gardens.
This Sunday’s picnic will promote Planet Ark’s National Recycling Week (November 13th to 19th) and one of the garden’s key tenents. The activities at this month’s picnic will all be centred around the concept of Recycle, Reuse and Repair.
Children will have the opportunity to participate in a Craft Workshop where a butterfly, bee, bird bath and insect hotel will be constructed from repurposed materials.
Displays and information will be available on how, as individuals, we can make an impact on the collective amount of waste that our community generates by recycling old phones, printer cartridges, plastic bags and composting our household waste.
Cassowary Coast Regional Council has printer cartridge recycling and a mobile muster collection box at both their customer service centres in Tully and Innisfail. And at the transfer stations; aluminium, steel, cardboard, plastic and e-waste are also recycled. There is also a Council composting scheme http://www.cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au/community-composting-program
The community events kicks off at 9am with the first craft workshop followed by forage and garden tours and the ever affordable Garden Harvest Lunch at midday.
The Johnstone River Community Gardens is located on the grounds of the Innisfail State College off Flying Fish Point Road, Innisfail.
