  • Biggest fish

  • Smallest fish

  • Most fish caught

  • Tournament Champion - most fish caught at the event

“Tilapia are a pest fish known as the ‘cane toad’ of our waterways. The last time we hosted this event over 800 tilapia fish were caught which made a significant dent to the local population. Tilapia fish are eating all our natural fish eggs which impacts the biodiversity of our waterways,” said Kelly Ashwood, from the CCRC Program Support Natural Environment team.

The Cassowary Coast Regional Council Tilapia Tournament will commence from 10:00am.  The final siren will sound at 1:00pm, followed by the prize-giving presentation.

Participants are required to supply their own handline or fishing rod.  A hat, sensible footwear and sunscreen is highly recommended. This event is proudly presented by Cassowary Coast Regional Council and sponsors Tackle World, BCF and River 'n' Reef.

Registration forms can be downloaded from the Council Events Page at http://www.cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au/documents/1422210/42233109/Registration%20form%202017.pdf and returned by 05/12/17 via email to kelly.ashwood@ccrc.qld.gov.au or at Cassowary Coast Regional Council customer service desks in Innisfail, Tully and Cardwell and Council Libraries at Innisfail, Tully, Wongaling Beach and Cardwell and the Innisfail PCYC.
