Waiting for a cab will be safer and drier in Innisfail
Innisfail's hot and wet weather will be less of an issue for Innisfail's taxi drivers and their customers this summer with work scheduled to begin this week on a $318,000 upgrade of the Owen Street taxi rank.
Cassowary Coast Regional Council received funding for the two-month project through Queensland's Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) Passenger Transport Infrastructure Investment Program.
Cr Glenn Raleigh said the upgrade and extension of the existing taxi facility would include installation of a new shelter, screens and seating to improve customer amenity.
"The work will include extension of the roof area to accommodate two wheelchair-accessible taxis for better protection from the elements," Cr Raleigh said.
"New shelter, roofing, guttering and seating will improve the customer waiting environment and extension of the roof line will provide additional weather protection."
The Council will relocate the taxi pick-up and drop-off location to the opposite side of Owen Street for the duration of the works.
"Council is grateful to DTMR for the funding for this important work, which will provide a safer, drier and more pleasant environment for customers and taxi drivers alike," he said.
