Council Water Filter trial

CCRC Water Filter CommissioningIn a bid to clear up the southern area’s rural and beach water supply, the Cassowary Coast Regional Council has installed a water filter on the trunk water main at Bulgun Creek.

Council’s Director of Civil Services,  Mr Alf Raiti said that the filter will remove particles larger than 50 micron (1/20th of a millimetre) and should greatly improve the quality of the water supply into the area, particularly during wet weather.

“While removing the larger particles, it will not completely solve the dirty water problems as it has no impact on turbidity and very fine particles in suspension will still make it into the distribution system.” Mr Raiti said.

Council plans to trial the filter through a wet season and once its effectiveness is proven, similar units will be installed on the supplies from other intakes within the council region.

Mr Raiti said that the total cost of the project was under $100,000.
