Tully Multi-Purpose Centre
The Cassowary Coast Regional Council today voted to honour its obligations under the Joint Development Agreement for the Tully Multi-Purpose Centre (MPC).
Division 2 Councillor, Cr Carmel Silvestro, put the motion on the table, citing legal advice, Council officer’s recommendations, and the longevity of the MPC issue as grounds for the project to proceed.
In supporting the motion, Council confirmed its funding commitment to the project of $1.4 million over three years, $500,000 of which is already held in Council’s reserves.
Mayor Bill Shannon said that the project consultant will now be instructed to meet with the MPC Project Control Group to discuss a range of preferred options for changes to the concept plans to meet the project budget of $4.4 million, which will be topped up by $200,000 proposed to be raised through corporate sponsorship.
Cr Silvestro stated during debate that the project had been delayed long enough.
“The government said that Council amalgamations would not leave any community worse off. The hall would have been started if not for the elections. Council needs to show their commitment to the people of Tully through this project,” she said.
Options for the changes to concept plans are expected to be available in the next month.
