2008 BHP Billiton Sport Development Bursary
Mayor Bill Shannon congratulated the initiative of BHP Billiton Cannington Mine in providing the opportunity for residents to nominate young athletes for $500 bursaries being administered by the North Queensland Sports Foundation.
“We have some extraordinarily talented young sporting athletes living within the Cassowary Coast Region who would jump at the chance to receive some kind of financial support for their hard earned efforts at achieving excellence in their chosen sporting field. I hope that some of these young people will have the opportunity to make their sport their career.”
“I would like to encourage residents who know a young sports person who they think is worthy of being considered for one of these bursaries to contact Council on 40 302 206 for applications which close with Council on Friday, 11 July 2008.”
