Council seeks community input on rates
If you would like to help ensure that property owners in this region enjoy the benefits of a rate-paying system which is fair and efficient, then the Cassowary Coast Regional Council would like to hear from you!
The council is looking for people willing to represent the community in a group which is being formed to provide input into a report on the best options for the council’s General Rate Structure and Pensioner Remission Policy.
“The aim is to set up a group that will provide a balanced view of the expectations of rate payers across the entire region,” said Cassowary Coast Mayor, Bill Shannon.
The council will directly appoint eight members from nominations made by organisations representing key interest groups within the region, including agriculture, tourism, pensioner groups, Chamber of Commerce and rental property management.
“We have called for Expressions of Interest from the general public in the hope that community-spirited residents with an interest in rates issues will fill the four remaining positions in the 12-member group,” Cr. Shannon said.
A full description of the objectives of the Rating Reference Group is contained within the Rating Reference Group Charter.
