Expressions Of Interest – Advisory Committee

The driving of motor vehicles on the beach and dunes at Cowley Beach raises a number of environmental and safety issues and has become a point of conflict between beach users and those agencies who are responsible for regulating the activity.

The Cassowary Coast Regional Council wishes to form an Advisory Committee to develop a range of options that may be used by both State Government Agencies and Council to develop a strategy to manage or regulate the use of vehicles on beaches and dunes. The Advisory Committee would include representatives from Council, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Natural Resources and Water, the traditional owners, Queensland Police and three community members.

Expressions of Interest are sought from members of the community who may wish to become involved in the work of this Committee. Prospective Committee members should be able to demonstrate a mature attitude to conflict resolution and decision making, an ability to objectively analyse information, strong links to the Cowley Beach community and an understanding of the natural and biodiversity values of the Cowley Beach area.

Written applications addressing the above criteria should be mailed to Council to be received no later than April 7th 2009. All enquiries in relation to this matter are to be directed to Paul Devine on (07) 40 683 105.
