Last chance to vet council’s 10-year plan

Residents are being given a final opportunity to share their views on the Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s draft Corporate Plan, which will guide council priorities and decision-making in the region for the next decade.

The draft plan is the end result of an extensive community consultation process, which included public meetings in Cardwell, Tully, Innisfail and Mission Beach over the last few months.

Cassowary Coast Mayor, Bill Shannon, said the public meetings had proved to be an excellent way to listen to what the community wanted for the future of this region.

“We used independent facilitators to ensure that all of the issues raised by community members who participated in the meetings were identified and, where possible, incorporated into the draft Corporate Plan,” he said.

However, the Council was keen to ensure that residents who could not attend the meetings still had an opportunity to share their views.

“We don’t want to finalise this plan until we were satisfied that residents had received every opportunity to provide their own input,” Cr. Shannon said.

“It is vital that the community feels a sense of ownership about this document.”

Copies of the Cassowary Coast Regional Council draft Corporate Plan are available at council offices and libraries. The document can also be downloaded via the link below.
