Libraries now an open book for borrowers

Bookworms rejoice! Council library branches have merged their databases and are now “reading from the same page”, which means borrowers registered with one branch can freely borrow from any branch in the Cassowary Coast region.

“In the past, borrowers had to join an individual branch, in order to borrow from it,” observed Cassowary Coast Regional Council Library Services Coordinator, Alexis Adams.

“Now, borrowers can use any existing borrower card at any of the four branches, which are located in Rankin Street, Innisfail, Bryant Street in Tully, Balliol Street in Cardwell and on the Tully-Mission Beach Road at Wongaling Beach.

“They can also view the merged catalogue in each branch and request items that are held in other branches,” she added.

Residents who apply for a library card at any of these four branches are now issued a universal Cassowary Coast libraries card. Battered or lost library cards issued to members under the previous regimen will be replaced with the new card as the need arises.
