Building approvals remain steady

The world financial crisis has not demolished building development activity in the Cassowary Coast region.

The number of applications for planning and building development approval handled each month by the Cassowary Coast Regional Council has remained steady, according to CCRC Director of Planning, John Pettigrew.

“There has been no significant fall-off in the figures,” he said. “Building and development projects are getting the nod at the same rate this year, as they were a year ago.”

The council recently chalked up its 1000th approval. “Since the formation of the Cassowary Coast Regional Council on 17 March 2008, a total of 355 Planning Development Approvals and 671 Building Development Approvals have been issued,” Mr Pettigrew said.

“Only 10 planning applications have been refused by the council during that period.”
