CCRC Tree Giveaway program
Both residents and native wildlife are set to benefit from the Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s Tree Giveaway program.
On 24th and 25th of September, community nurseries in Tully and Innisfail will be open from 8 am – 3 pm to allow residents to select two free seedlings from among our region’s unique flora.
Plant species on offer will include the Cassowary Coast Region’s new floral emblem, the Golden Penda, as well as Red Bottlebrushes, Native Gardenias and Powder Puff Lilly Pillies.
All these species are small shrubs suitable for backyards. They also produce nectar or fruit that attracts a range of native bird species.
The Tree Giveaway program will run over two days, and will occur four times a year.
However, local native plants are available for purchase throughout the year from both the Innisfail and the Tully community nurseries, which also produce a large range of local native plants for use in rehabilitation programs.
The Innisfail nursery is open on Thursday mornings from 8 am – 12.30 pm (phone: 4030 2287).
The Tully nursery is open from 1.30 pm – 3.30 pm on Thursdays and 8 am – 3 pm Fridays (phone: 4068 0055).
The Tree Giveaway program will replace the Trees for Ratepayers Program.
