Notification of wild dog baiting program

Cattle graziers and community members of East Palmerston with assistance from Biosecurity Queensland, Cassowary Coast Regional Council and Terrain are about to launch the most strategic wild dog control program held in the Cassowary Coast Regional Council area to date.

The control program will utilise the chemical sodium fluoroacetate (1080) which is the most economic; efficient, and humane method of dog control available. When used correctly, there is a very limited threat to off-target wildlife species as members of the Canine family are highly susceptible to this chemical at extremely low dosage rates as will be used in this area. The program will be monitored closely by Biosecurity QLD staff and have a number of control measures put in place to minimise impacts.

The baiting program will run between Friday the 25th September, 2009 and Thursday 8th October, 2009.

Residents are responsible for restraining their pets over the 13 days of the program.
