Wildlife to benefit from councils free trees programme
On the 24th and 25th of September community nurseries in Tully and Innisfail will be open from 8am-3pm for residents to collect 2 trees to promote our regions unique flora.
Trees on offer will feature the regions new floral emblem, the Golden Penda, and include Red Bottlebrushes, Native Gardenias and Powder Puff Lilly Pillies. All these species are small shrubs suitable for backyards and all attract various birds and supply them with nectar or fruit.
The giveaway programme will run only in nominated periods up to four times a year and will be advertised in local media. Both the Innisfail and the Tully Community nurseries produce a large range of local native plants for use in rehabilitation programs and for sale to the general public.
As you pick up your free trees, ask our friendly staff about activities such as the nursery volunteer programme, bring in a plant or weed to be identified and seek practical advice for revegetation and weed control projects.
Innisfail Nursery is open to the public on Thursday Morning from 8am-12.30pm and can be contacted on 4030 2287 for further details, and Tully nursery is open from 1.30-3.30pm on Thursdays and 8am-3pm Fridays and can be contacted on 4068 0055 for further details.
This Targeted giveaway program will replace ‘Trees for Ratepayers Programme” that has been run in past.
