October 18, 2019 - Cassowary Coast Council libraries now open for longer

Library hours are being extended at three of the four branches in the Cassowary Coast region, and that’s good news for regular users and visitors.

The branches – Wongaling Beach, Tully and Cardwell – will all have their open times increased to make the services even easier to use, says Councillor Mark Nolan, of the Cassowary Coast Regional Council.

“Our libraries are always popular in the communities they serve, but we identified certain times where it would be helpful to extend hours, so we have” Cr Nolan says.

“Previously, for example, the Cardwell high school bus arrived back in Cardwell just as the library was closing – so now we’re extending the open time by an extra hour so that students can drop in to do some research, or enjoy the other services the library has to offer.”

The new open times at the branches begin on Monday (21/10). Visit the Council website for more information, or call 1300 366 616.

Summary of new open times:

Cardwell library: Monday from 10am-5pm; Tuesday-Friday from 9am-5pm (but closed Fridays from 1-2pm).
Wongaing and Tully libraries: Monday from 10am-5pm; Tuesday-Friday from 9am-5pm.
Innisfail library: open times remain the same.

Meanwhile, the Council libraries currently are running special Tech Savvy sessions to help people get familiar with how to use their computers, tablets, mobile phones and social media.

The free small-group sessions help people learn how to get better connected with family and friends, and have also been popular with job-seekers wanting to learn how to find more job opportunities that often are advertised on the internet.

The Tech Savvy classes run until mid-December. Contact your local branch for more information, or call 1300 366 616.

The library branches also have a DVD loan-out service, audiobooks, and lots of online e-resources such as ebooks, movie streaming, and more.
