October 8, 2019 - Cardwell community spirit saves the day for local youngsters
Last weekend (5-7/10) Cardwell proved that it’s not just in tough times that the local community pulls together - it’s when there’s play-time to be had for the youngsters as well.
Mums and kids from the Little Gliders pre-schoolers group normally hold their regular play-dates at a local school. However the school was closed for the holidays, and it looked like the kids were just going to have to miss out.
Then some quick-thinking and local community spirit helped save the day, with an unexpected offer of help coming from the Cardwell Historic Precinct.
The museum and visitor centre, operated and funded by the Cassowary Coast Regional Council, had a big exhibition on the weekend. A large tent which had been set up outside was not in use the day before the exhibition - would the mums and kids like to use it, since it was there anyway?
The tent quickly became a welcome last-minute venue for the gaggle of Little Gliders, with the nearby council-operated library also helping out by loaning chairs and toys.
