September 23, 2019 - Slam Dunk: Mayor welcomes economic activation at Mission Beach
Cassowary Coast Regional Council Mayor John Kremastos has welcomed yesterday’s announcement by Australian-owned international investment and corporate advisory group Mayfair 101 which has purchased the Dunk Island resort freehold land and have reported contracts on another 200 properties in the Mission Beach area.
Mayor Kremastos said, “we welcome this type of investment into our region which reinforces this Council’s decision to develop a strong local tourism strategy and offer development incentives to drive investment to our region and in particular Mission Beach.
“Council appreciates our natural assets and we definitely do not want Gold Coast/Surfer’s Paradise style development. But rather development that integrates with beautiful natural assets, such as our rainforest walks, reef, tropical islands and waterfalls – the reasons why we are unique and look to attract more visitors to the area.
“As a driver and supporter of the soon to be completed Mission Beach Safe Boating Facility, it is great to see the boating project support ongoing local development.”
“The announcement by Mayfair 101 follows other developments for the region where we on the cusp of a new era of prosperity for the Cassowary Coast.
“This announcement will bring confidence to the region and create further development and investment opportunities,” said Mayor Kremastos.
Mayfair 101 have announced an investment of $1.6B in the region over a 15 year period and have predicted over 3,600 jobs for the region.
The aspirations for Dunk Island and the region also fits with recently launched Tropical Coast Tourism’s strategy vision ‘to be recognised as a leading adventure and lifestyle destination with diverse world class natural experiences’.
