Australia Day Award Nominations Are Closing Soon

Nominations for the 2018 Australia Day Awards close at 4:30pm on Friday 15 December, 2017.

Talia Bulstrode who won the Junior Sportsperson of the Year Award for the Cassowary Coast in 2016 for her sailing achievements, said that winning the award was a real honour and has given her more confidence.

“It was awesome to meet other like-minded kids like myself and be recognised by those in my local community and the Council and Councillors. It has inspired me to push through during the toughest times during a regatta,” Bulstrode said.

The Mena Creek teenager is racking up some impressive results on the water in the Opti class and recently competed in Sail Melbourne.

The Australia Day Award nominations are the perfect opportunity for residents to nominate a friend, colleague or relative who deserves recognition for their achievements and contributions to the Cassowary Coast community. This could be through their personal involvement in local clubs or sporting groups, volunteer or charity work, business, cultural or youth groups, or by being an advocate for a cause within the community.

Please note junior awards, including the Young Citizen of the Year, are open to residents aged under 25 as at 26 January, 2018.

Nomination forms are available from Council’s customer service centres and regional libraries of visit

Winners will be announced at Council's Australia Day Award celebrations on 26 January, 2018.
