Becoming a Member
Membership is not required for some library services, however we encourage you to discover the lifelong benefits of library membership by signing up at any of our branches, or by completing an online Member Sign Up form through our catalogue.
Library members can borrow from any of our 4 library branches at Cardwell, Innisfail, Tully and Wongaling Beach. Membership options include: Resident, Reciprocal, Visitor, Organisation and Online [see below].
What you need to become a member
To complete your application, staff will need to see proof of ID and proof of address. A driver license with your current address is sufficient, or a combination of documents such as a Medicare card plus Council Rates notice or utility bill, or passport etc.
Children under the age of 18 will need to have their application completed by a parent or guardian who has suitable identification.
Organisations such as schools, associations and companies can also join. Please contact your local branch for more information.
Borrowing
You will need to produce your membership card each time you borrow from any branch, or to create an account to borrow ebooks and e-audiobooks.
Reservations can be placed on items which are on loan to another member or available at another library branch. This can be done in person at a branch, by phone or email, or by logging in to Member Services through the online catalogue.
Inter-library loans can be arranged for items not held in the Cassowary Coast Libraries collection (fees apply). Check with our friendly branch staff.
We welcome purchase suggestions for items we don't hold, if they are in print and suitable for the collection.
Renewing
Loans of physical items (other than magazines and inter-library loans) can be renewed for a further 3 weeks provided they haven't been requested by another member in the meantime. You can renew by phone or email, by logging in to Member Services through the online catalogue, or in person at any of our branches.
Please note:
- magazines have a strict 2 week loan period and cannot be renewed.
- Renewal of inter-library loans is at the discretion of the library service that owns the item. If you wish to request an extension of an inter-library loan, please contact one of our friendly staff.
Returning
Library items can be returned in person at any branch during opening hours. When the library is closed, returns can be made through the after-hours returns chute at the front of each branch.
Reminder notices are sent for overdue items.
If you lose items or damage items beyond repair, you will be required to pay a replacement charge.
