Young People

FIRST 5 FOREVER STORYTIME gives children the opportunity to share the wonderful world of books and reading. You and your child can enjoy a selection of stories and then a craft activity. These sessions are offered regularly.

FIRST 5 FOREVER BABY BOUNCE AND RHYMETIME sessions are aimed at babies and toddlers and provide an opportunity for you and your little ones to enjoy songs and rhymes as you introduce them to the world of words. The First 5 Forever initiative is funded by the Queensland Government.

YOURTUTOR is an online tutoring service for students in years 4-12 from the library or from home. It is available Monday to Friday from 3pm to 10pm. Trained tutors provide one-on-one support for homework, assignments, projects and exam revision in maths, English, science, assignment research and study skills.

The SUMMER READING PROGRAM runs over the Christmas school holidays, with online activites and activities in the libraries. The program aims to maintain children's literacy levels over the summer break, ready for their next level of schooling.

HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES are run during the school holidays. Please check with your local branch for details.

LEGO AFTERNOONS are also held in some branches.

Seniors

LARGE PRINT fiction and non-fiction books are available for those who find normal print too difficult to read. Although some are hardcover, the majority of the collection is in lighter paperback format.

AUDIOBOOKS are recorded books, including fiction and non-fiction titles. They are available on CD, MP3CD and pre-recorded MP3 players. The majority of the collection is unabridged titles.

An OUTREACH SERVICE is provided to aged care residents at Warrina and Villa Nova in Innisfail.

Technology

 COMPUTERS are available in each branch, as is broadband internet access.

  • Computer and internet access is free.
  • Wifi access is available at Dorothy Jones Library in Tully and at Innisfail Library.
  • Use of a library computer and access to the internet is subject to the Cassowary Coast Regional Council's Public Internet Use Policy.
  • USB ports are provided for external devices to be attached to library computers.
  • Colour or black and white printing is available for a charge.
  • A scanner is available for use.
  • Computers have Microsoft Office 2007 including Word Excel and Powerpoint.

BASIC TUTORIALS on using the internet and email are available. Please ask at your local branch.

PHOTOCOPYING (A4 and A3 ) is offered at all branches for a charge.

FAXES can be sent and received at all branches for a charge.

A MICROFORM READER/PRINTER is available at the Innisfail Library. It is available for family history research and access to early editions of the Innisfail Advocate and Tully Times newspapers.

Reference

REFERENCE MATERIALS such as dictionaries, encyclopaedias and atlases are available for use in the libraries. Staff are happy to help with information enquiries.

An INTER-LIBRARY LOAN SERVICE is available if you are unable to find what you need in the libraries. Information and books may be requested for you from other libraries. We do not charge for this service, although any fees charged by the supplying libraries are passed on to you. You can request individual titles or information on a particular subject. Contact staff for further information.

Spaces

MEETING ROOMS are provided at the Cardwell Library, Innisfail Library and the Dorothy Jones Library in Tully. Visit the Community Venues for Hire page for details.

DISPLAY SPACE is available at all branches for community organisations.

READING AREAS in each branch allow you to catch up with the latest news from newspapers or magazines.
