September 20 2017: Mission Beach Residents urged to reduce water consumption
Following the rainfall event that triggered high turbidity in the Bulgun Creek intake system, Council isolated the southern Mission Beach area from this supply source and the southern Mission Beach region is being supplied solely from clear water storage in our reservoirs at Mission Beach.
On Friday 15th September, 2017 the Cassowary Coast Region was placed on Level 2 water restrictions. Under Level 2 restrictions, no watering of gardens is permitted on Mondays whether by manual or automated sprinklers, micro spray or drip water systems or hand-held hoses.
Odd numbered houses may use sprinklers on Tuesday and Saturdays between 6am and 7am and 6pm and 7pm only. Even numbered houses may use sprinklers on Wednesdays and Sundays between 6am and 7am and 6pm and 7pm only.
Hand held hoses, fitted with a trigger nozzle, may be used on any day except Mondays. Watering cans or buckets can be used at any time.
Consumption in the greater Mission Beach region is currently quite high and as a consequence the reservoir storage is depleting rapidly. Unless consumption moderates, it may be necessary to extend the boil water alert to the South Mission Beach, Wongaling and Merryburn areas.
Could Mission Beach residents be mindful of the criticality of the supply situation and reduce their water consumption as a priority and abide by the Level 2 water restrictions.
