Budget 2017-18: Lowest Rates Rise Since Amalgamation

Council has paid out all its loans and delivered the lowest rates rise since amalgamation. There will be an average general rates rise of 1.65 per cent. The overall rates and charges increase is 2.09 per cent. This equates to an average weekly residential rates rise of $1.51 cents.

Budget 2017-18: Strong focus on roads

$14.74 million in capital expenditure has been allocated for works within Council's transport network and an additional $6 million will be spent on road/bridge/drainage/pathway maintenance and repairs.

Budget 2017-18: Major signage project to promote the region

This project includes innovative entry statements at the region's southern, northern and western entrances, and entry signs for both major and smaller regional centres.

Budget 2017-18: Investing in the region's water schemes

$6.05 million is in the capital works budget for water. $1.3 million is for the first stage of a new reservoir in the Mission Beach area. Council also has plans to further secure supply for the Tully and Cardwell areas.
