The Cassowary Coast Region has a rich history. Both the previous Johnstone Shire Council and, more particularly, the previous Cardwell Shire Council were committed to the collection of historical records relating to the area.
A collection of over 4000 photographs relating to the southern part of the region are indexed on computer and available for viewing. In addition, the local history collections at Tully and Innisfail provide material documenting the history of the region. Back issues of the local newspapers are held, the Tully Times in the Tully branch and the Innisfail Advocate in the Innisfail branch.
At the Cardwell and Tully libraries, items from the collection of local historic photographs are on display. These items are regularly changed so that visitors can view topical exhibitions relating to the local history of the region.
Displays and associated talks can be arranged for school or other groups by contacting the Tully librarian.
