Penning Park Redevelopment Project Penning Park Redevelopment Project

Penning Park Redevelopment Concept Plan

The Tully Heads and Hull Heads communities identified the restoration of Penning Park as a priority for community recovery.

To this end, the Cassowary Coast Regional Council worked to obtain funds to restore the natural vegetation and improve the facilities of the park.

Funding:
Two successful Rural Resilience Package Grants Program submissions provided funds to further develop the community playground area, install pathways, bollards, and interpretive signage. Generous donations from the Tully Lions Club, CAPTA(Cairns), the SEMC Foundation and Palmerston Council (NT) supported this project and provided additional covered picnic facilities and landscaping.

Focus:
The focus was on the "visitor services" area of the park around the existing barbecue area. However Council is interested in planning for future use of other park areas.

Community consultation:
Representatives from different sectors of the community are part of a Penning Park Community Reference Group.  This group assessed options for the park's redevelopment and gathered community aspirations for future use of the area.

A concept plan for Penning Park was developed with the assistance of the Penning Park Community Reference Group, which includes representatives from different sectors of the community. The plan also took in feedback from a survey circulated in the community.
