Resources
Cassowary Coast Libraries have a wide range of resources for use in the libraries and at home. You can search our collections by using our online catalogue. Our collections are funded jointly by Council and the Queensland State government.
BOOKS
Fiction: Stories for young and old, including westerns, romance, mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, graphic novels, picture books and board books.
Non-fiction: Facts on all sorts of subjects, including biographies, cookery, personal health, travel and gardening.
Reference: Encyclopaedias, dictionaries, workshop manuals, atlases and other material for use in the branches.
PERIODICALS
Current magazines are available on a variety of topics including science, sport, travel, cooking and art. Some current issues are not available for loan, however back issues can be borrowed. Back issues of magazine titles held in other branches can be reserved.
Newspapers are also available for use in the branches.
SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
Large print: Fiction and non-fiction books are available for those who find normal print too difficult to read.
Languages Other Than English (LOTE): Fiction, non-fiction and DVDs in a range of languages. Please ask you friendly library staff if you can't find the language you want.
ONLINE
Databases: Using Google to search online can retrieve a lot of irrelevant and incorrect information. Using databases will provide current, quality information. Cassowary Coast Libraries provide access to a range of databases including some that you can use at home. You will need your library card number to access these databases, and in some cases you may need other details.
Your Tutor: Having trouble with homework? Wish you could access a tutor at the click of a button? WISH GRANTED!! Check out this free online tutoring service being offered by Cassowary Coast Libraries and Tutoring Australasia.
MULTIMEDIA
DVDs: Documentaries, TV series and films for young and old.
CDs: Popular, jazz, country, classical and world music and relaxation audio discs.
Audiobooks: Books you can listen to on CD, MP3CD and pre-recorded MP3 players, including fiction and non-fiction titles.
Software: Computer games and learning software.
HERITAGE
Local history: The Innisfail Heritage Collection is the history of the old Johnstone Shire (Innisfail branch) and the Dorothy Jones Library Local History Collection is the history of the old Cardwell Shire (Tully branch). These include books, maps and newspapers. The Pictorial Museum is a collection of local historic photographs. Donations to the Local History collection are invited.
Family history: Cassowary Coast Libraries hold a collection of books, microfiche/microfilm and CD-ROMS to help you research your family history including births, deaths and marriages, and indexes and guides to researching cultural and ethnic groups and specific countries.
