Planning Schemes

Cassowary Coast Regional Council adopted a new planning scheme on 3 July 2015. The Cassowary Coast Planning Scheme 2015 regulates land use and development across the region and delivers Council's local planning aspirations for the region. The scheme replaced the Johnstone Shire Planning Scheme 2005 and Cardwell Shire Planning Scheme 2007, providing a consistent planning regime for the whole council area.

Superseded Planning Schemes:

The Queensland Government has released a new Plan-making dashboard to increase transparency and boost community confidence in Queensland's plan-making system.  The dashboard is publicly accessible and tracks and displays information about local government plan-making processes across the state. The easy to navigate, interactive tool displays 'real time' status of plan-making processess including:

  • key dates
  • scheme name
  • plan-making process description
  • roles and responsibilites of those involved

The dashboard includes information on all plan-making processes undertaken since commencement of the Planning Act 2016 that have been lodged with the Queensland Government's Planning Group - Access the dashboard here.

 

Planning Scheme Amendments:

Amendment No. 3 - Local Government Infrastucture Plan (LGIP)

In accordance with the requirements of the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 & Statutory Guidelines 01/16 & 03/14, Council adopted the Local Government Infrastucture Plan (LGIP) on 28 November 2019.

The LGIP replaces the Priority Infrastructure Plan (PIP) contained within the Cassowary Coast Regional Council Planning Scheme 2015 and commences 16 December 2019.

Amendment No.2 – 9.4.6 Parking and Access Code

On 9 August 2018 the Cassowary Coast Regional Council resolved to adopt a qualified state interest amendment to the car parking standards and rates within the Cassowary Coast Regional Council Planning Scheme 2015. Amendment No. 2 to the Cassowary Coast Regional Council Planning Scheme 2015, 9.4.6 Parking and access code will commence on 17 August 2018. The purpose and general effect of Amendment No. 2 – 9.4.6 Parking and Access Code is to update car parking rates to better reflect car parking demand for different land uses and provide Council with greater flexibility within the planning scheme to respond to local car parking issues.

Amendment No.1 – Alignment Amendment

On 22 June 2017 the Cassowary Coast Regional Council made the Alignment Amendments under the Alignment Amendment Rules and Section 293 of the Planning Act 2016 to the Cassowary Coast Regional Council Planning Scheme 2015. The Alignment Amendments commenced upon the commencement of the Planning Act 2016 on 3 July 2017. The Alignment Amendments have the purpose and general effect of bringing the Planning Scheme into alignment with the new concepts and terminology included in the Planning Act 2016.
