Dog registration applications can be lodged with the appropriate registration fee:

• Online by completing the dog registration form– New Dog Registration Form
• Renew your dog registration by completing the online form here
• Over the phone by calling Council's Customer Service team on 1300 763 903
• In person by visiting Council's Customer Service Centres

To register your dog you will need the following:

• Dog microchip number.
• Proof of desex for discounted registration fee, if applicable.
• Proof of pension for discounted registration fee, if applicable.
• Appropriate form of payment for applicable fee as stated on the ‘Application for registration of Dog’ form.

Once dog registration is completed you will receive:

A life-long dog registration that needs to be attached to dog collar

Good Dog Owners Guide brochure.

Proof of Ownership – If your dog gets lost or is in an accident, registration and microchipping give you the best chance of being reunited.

Saves You Money – Registering your dog costs less than the fine. An unregistered dog could land you a fee of over $225.

Supports Your Community – Registration fees help fund important animal management services.

Once registered all dogs will receive one life-time dog tag.

The life-time tag is to be attached to the registered dog’s collar, where it is visible.

If the life-time dog tag is lost, stolen or damaged, dog owners can request a replacement tag: online here, over the phone by calling Council’s Customer Service Team on 1300 763 903 or in person by visiting Council’s Customer Service Team

If you and your dog have moved, you will need to update your dog’s registration details.

What is a working dog?

Under the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008, a working dog is defined as a dog usually kept or proposed to be kept:

• on rural land and
• by an owner who is a primary producer, or a person engaged or employed by a primary producer and
• primarily for the purpose of droving, protecting, tending or working stock Or being trained in droving, protecting, tending or working stock.

Can I Register My Working Dog?

Yes! While you are not legally obligated to register your working dog council does allow you to register for free. Registration is a great way to ensure your dog can be quickly and easily identified should it become lost.

To register your working dog:

• Complete a Working Dog Registration Application
• Attach proof that you are a primary producer or employed by a primary producer

Then keep your details up to date to ensure we can contact you should your animal ever become lost.

If your dog retires and becomes a pet, you simply need to update your dog’s status with council and

the registration fee will be charged from the next registration period.

Assistance dogs are working animals that are specially trained to help people who are living with physical disabilities to move around, do everyday activities and tasks, and be more independent. They are also called service dogs.

Guide, hearing, mobility support and psychiatric assistance dogs are eligible for free registration with Council.

Do I need to Register my Assistance Dog?

Yes! You must still submit an assistance dog registration form and provide a copy of:

A current appropriate handlers’ identification card, and

A copy of a certificate or other written confirmation from the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services, showing the dog is certified as a guide, hearing or assistance dog under the Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dogs Act 2009.

Dogs that are involved in a reported incidence may be declared a ‘Regulated Dog’ under the Queensland Government’s Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.

In Queensland, regulated dogs include:

Declared menacing dog

Declared dangerous dogs
