Assistance dogs are working animals that are specially trained to help people who are living with physical disabilities to move around, do everyday activities and tasks, and be more independent. They are also called service dogs.
Guide, hearing, mobility support and psychiatric assistance dogs are eligible for free registration with Council.
Do I need to Register my Assistance Dog?
Yes! You must still submit an assistance dog registration form and provide a copy of:
A current appropriate handlers’ identification card, and
A copy of a certificate or other written confirmation from the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services, showing the dog is certified as a guide, hearing or assistance dog under the Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dogs Act 2009.
