Before reporting a damaged road check to see who maintains the road, by using the search tool below. If your road is managed by Council report your issue via our online Road Maintenance Request Form.

If your road is a managed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads report your issue directly.

Council has limited liability for damage caused by potholes or road hazards, as the road network in Queensland is governed by the Civil Liability Act 2003. While regular inspections are conducted, residents are encouraged to report any road damage.

If you wish to make a claim, please provide:

• Two repair quotes
• A letter of demand
• Completed claim form

It is recommended not to carry out any repairs on the vehicle until your claim is processed.

Any claims relating to major roads such as the main highways should be made to the Department of Main roads.

To ensure the safe management of vehicle and pedestrian traffic and to protect Council infrastructure, all works on Council roads require an application to be completed and submitted. Council must also ensure that stormwater flow is not disrupted during or after the works.

If you plan to undertake works on a Council-controlled road, you must complete and submit an Approved Form 4.23 Alteration or Improvement of Local Government Controlled Areas or Roads(PDF, 982KB) to Council.

For works on a State-controlled road, you will need to obtain a permit from the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) and may also require approval from Council. Contact details for DTMR are provided below.

Under State Government legislation, anyone conducting works on Council roads must engage a Registered Traffic Management Company to develop a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) that complies with the latest requirements.

The TMP must be submitted along with the relevant application before any work begins.
