Advisory and Other Committees

Council has several advisory committees to support our decision-making. We understand the valuable role the Advisory Committees play in creating a space for local community representatives to have an avenue to engage and promote awareness on specific community topics.

Each Advisory Committee has a purpose and membership structure set out within the terms of reference.

Council has established three Advisory Committees for this term.

  • Economic Development Advisory Committee
  • Youth Advisory Committee
  • Rating Advisory Committee

Economic Development Advisory Committee

Purpose

The aim of the Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) is to provide Council with input and feedback to shape the development of an Economic Development Strategy.

Membership

The EDAC membership will consist of up to 12 members and may include representation from: Local Chambers of Commerce and Industry Groups, Representative Body (Government), Cassowary Coast Regions Business Operators with diversity across industries.

Youth Advisory Committee

Purpose

To provide a platform for Youth throughout the Cassowary Coast to communicate with Council on current and emergent themes impacting youth in the region. To showcase the bold ideas youth have in creating a region they want to live, work and stay in. The committee focuses on meaningful youth participation and will work collaboratively to ensure the views and opinions of youth are heard.

Rating Advisory Committee

Purpose

The Rating Advisory Committee will be established for the purpose of providing feedback and recommendations on Council’s current General Rates and Special Levies structure in advance of developing the 2024/25 Annual Budget.

Membership

The Rating Advisory Committee shall be comprised of: an Independent Facilitator, a Technical Specialist, Representatives from local organisation/interest/community groups (ideally a maximum of 12)

Council will appoint an independent facilitator and a technical specialist with extensive knowledge of Local Government rating methodologies and processes. The appointment may result in a single person filling both roles.

Sub-Committees

Council has additional sub-committees, which are responsible for assisting Council with key projects.

Council has established two sub-committees for this term:

  • Innisfail CBD Revitalisation Stakeholder Reference Group
  • Mission Beach Stakeholder Reference Group

Innisfail Stakeholder Reference Group

Purpose

The Innisfail CBD Revitalisation Stakeholder Reference Group’s purpose is to support Council’s goal of working collaboratively to build a community that is informed and engaged and that participates in processes driving our community’s future.

Membership

Council will appoint one elected member as the chairperson and one elected member as a deputy to the group. The membership will be made up of 12 members from the identified stakeholders. Members will be required to apply through an expression of interest process with preference provided to those in the Primary stakeholder group.

Mission Beach Stakeholder Reference Group

Purpose

The Mission Beach Town Centre Revitalisation Community and Stakeholder Reference Group's purpose is to provide a representative voice to Council throughout the design and construction phases of the project. The CSRG will provide community feedback to Council throughout the design and construction phase.
