Pre-Cyclone Season Clean Up Events

Get ready for cyclone season and declutter safely. Council is running two free clean-up events so residents can dispose of up to 4m³ of sorted general household waste at selected Waste Transfer Stations. Reminder, recycling is always free when you sort it.

What’s free

• Up to 4m³ per load of sorted residential general household waste (Dry Only) per visit
• Disposal fees for refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners will also be waived - normally $20 per unit.
• Green waste and other recyclables: Always free when sorted (year-round).

Load limits & fees

• Maximum free load: 4m³ per visit
• Over 4m³: normal commercial rates apply

Why we run this event

This initiative helps households remove items that can become hazards in high winds, improving community safety and cyclone preparedness. It also supports waste separation and diversion from landfill, since fees were introduced in July 2023, residential dry waste has halved due to better sorting.

How to prepare your load

1. Pre-sort at home (general household waste separate from green waste, metals, e-waste, cardboard, etc.).
2. Tie down and cover your load for safe transport.
3. Follow staff directions on site for correct disposal lanes.
4. Ask if unsure - our attendants can help you divert items into the right streams.

What to bring

• Proof of residence (if requested)
• Covered, secured load
• Gloves and closed shoes for safe unloading

Accessibility & traffic

We expect higher than usual visitation. Additional staff will be rostered to keep things moving and to help with separation on site. Please follow all traffic management directions.
