Gain Paid Work Experience While You Study Engineering!

Cassowary Coast Regional Council, in partnership with Central Queensland University (CQU), offers an exciting Cadetship Program that combines paid work and study to help you grow as a professional engineer.

As a cadet, you'll get practical, hands-on experience while completing your engineering degree, working alongside experts in the field and contributing to real-world projects.

There are currently no Engineering Cadet vacancies available. Future opportunities will be advertised on Council's Positions Vacant page when they become available.

Program Highlights

  • Diverse Learning Opportunities: Gain exposure to various engineering fields, including:
    • Water and sewage treatment plants
    • Roads and drainage systems
    • Asset management and civil design
    • Project delivery and infrastructure planning
  • Exciting Projects: Work on projects that will shape the future of the Cassowary Coast, such as:
    • New sewage pumping stations
    • Water main renewals (over 5 km)
    • CBD revitalisation projects
    • Bridge and culvert construction
    • Expanding and upgrading pathways and roads
    • Stormwater infrastructure renewal
    • And more!
  • Real-World Experience: Under the guidance of experienced engineers, you'll be involved in projects that give you valuable industry knowledge and skills.
  • Earn While You Learn: Council will pay for your tuition, and you’ll receive a salary ranging from $57,837 to $71,401 (pro-rata depending on study level and experience).
  • Stay Local: Use your engineering qualification to make a difference right here in the Cassowary Coast region.

Eligibility

  • You must be studying or accepted to study engineering at CQU, intending to major in civil or mechanical engineering.
  • You must be from the Cassowary Coast region.
  • You must be an Australian Citizen.

How to Apply

  • Year 12 students and those studying engineering are encouraged to express their interest.
  • Complete an Expression of Interest from to register your interest.
