Cassowary Coast Regional Council has endorsed funding for more than 20 local organisations through Round 1 of the 2025–2026 Community Grants and Support Program.

A total of $208,000 has been allocated across two streams, Community Infrastructure and Community Projects and Initiatives, supporting projects that will deliver long-lasting benefits to local groups and the wider community.

Mayor MIllwood said the high standard of applications showed the strength of community spirit across the region.

“From sporting upgrades and cultural celebrations to facility improvements and wellbeing initiatives, these projects highlight the passion our community has for creating vibrant, inclusive spaces,” the Mayor said.

Community Infrastructure funding ($150,000) will support upgrades such as new fencing for the Innisfail & District Men’s Shed, cold water fountains at Goondi State School, safety improvements at QCWA Flying Fish Point, and facility works at clubs in Tully and Innisfail.

Community Projects and Initiatives funding ($58,192) will assist events and activities including the Cardwell Barra Bonanza, Girringun Aboriginal Corporation’s 30-year celebrations, Innisfail Tennis Association’s centenary, cultural heritage programs, and support for local bands, seniors and service groups.

Council also noted the number of strong applications received and thanked all groups for their submissions. Unsuccessful applicants will be offered feedback sessions and encouraged to apply in future rounds.

“These grants are about working alongside our local organisations to build capacity and deliver projects that matter,” the Mayor said. “It’s an investment in people, places and the community.”
