To ensure the safety of our community, the pylons will be removed this morning, Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

We understand the historical and sentimental value of the jetty pylons located on the foreshore. However, after careful assessment, it has been determined that the deteriorating condition of the timber poses a significant safety risk, particularly to children and families who visit the area.

The timber will be carefully stored in a secure location while Council works closely with the Cardwell Historical Society to determine an appropriate future for these important historical pieces.

The safety of our residents and visitors must remain our highest priority, and by acting now, we can prevent potential accidents while preserving the pylons for future discussions about their role in our shared history.

We thank the community for their cooperation and support as we take this necessary step to protect everyone who enjoys this beautiful area.
