While Cassowary Coast Regional Council is not currently under water restrictions, it's essential to understand how these measures help conserve our water resources during times of increased demand or drought.
Water restrictions are temporary measures implemented to manage water usage and ensure a continuous supply during periods of low rainfall or high demand. They apply to all residents, businesses, and industries within the affected areas.
Water restrictions are categorized into levels, each with specific guidelines:

PRIVATE GARDENS
1. No sprinklers/microsprays/drip watering systems on Mondays. 2. Odd numbered houses—sprinklers can be used on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 6am-8am and 6pm-8pm. 3. Even-numbered houses—sprinklers can be used on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 6am-8am and 6pm-8pm. 4. Hand-held hoses with trigger nozzles, watering cans and buckets can be used any time. 5. Existing ponds can be topped up with a hose/bucket etc. 6. Fountains must not operate unless on recycled water. 7. No hosing of paved areas (unless related to an emergency). Bucket use at any time. 8. Pools and spas can be topped up in watering times.
CLEANING CARS, TRUCKS, BOATS ETC. (INCLUDING CAR DEALERSHIPS)
1. Trigger hoses can only be used to rinse vehicles/boats after washing. Washing permitted with watering cans/buckets filled directly from a tap or via a commercial car washing facility or automatic washing facilities using recycled water. (Boat motors can be flushed and rinsed after use.) 2. Food transport vehicles can be cleaned using trigger hoses.
FARM DAMS & TANKS
1. Do not top up unless they are providing water for fire-fighting, public health or stock watering purposes (and then only to the extent that is reasonably necessary). 2. Other dams or tanks can only be topped up if you have written permission from Council.
MOBILE TANKERS
Filling permitted between 8am and 8pm if you have written permission from Council or you are supplying water for fire -fighting, public health or stock watering purposes.
CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
Trigger hoses can be used. Hoses cannot otherwise be used unless with written permission from Council.
SPORTS GROUNDS
1. Active playing surfaces—sprinklers allowed from 5pm-10am any day. 2. Non-active playing surfaces—sprinklers on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays 5pm-10am.

Washing permitted with watering cans/buckets filled directly from a tap or via a commercial car washing facility or automatic washing facilities using recycled water. (Boat motors can be flushed and rinsed after use for a maximum of 5 minutes) 2. Food transport vehicles can be cleaned using trigger hoses.
1. Non-active playing surfaces must not be watered without written permission from Council
2. Active playing services - Sprinklers, micro sprays or drip systems between the hours of 6.00 a.m. to 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

2. Active playing services - With hand held hoses on surfaces to be used for a scheduled Regional or State professional sporting competition; or with watering cans or buckets directly filled from taps.
Water must not be used to clean vehicles unless cleaning is required for health or safety reasons. Cleaning for health and safety reasons must be undertaken using –
Farm dams and tanks must not be topped up except - Dams or tanks providing water for fire fighting, public health or stock watering purposes but only to the extent necessary to reasonably provide for those purposes; or In the case of other dams or tanks, with the written permission of the Council.
Unless otherwise exempted by the Council in writing, hoses must not be used except trigger hoses. Water must not be used for dust suppression unless the water is recycled water of the appropriate quality fit for the purpose.
