What’s happening?

Cassowary Coast Regional Council will soon begin demolition and site works at Violet Smith Park, Tully, to replace the existing public amenities building with a new modern facility that meets current standards and accessibility requirements.

The project includes:

  • Demolition of the existing amenities building
  • Separation of existing electrical services
  • Installation of a new three-cubicle amenities building
  • New accessible and compliant public toilet facilities

The new facility will include:

  • One ambulant cubicle
  • One standard unisex cubicle
  • One accessible cubicle for people with disability

Project timing

Site establishment is scheduled to commence on Wednesday 20 May 2026.

Works are expected to be completed by 15 July 2026, weather permitting.

What to expect during construction

During construction:

  • The existing public toilets at Violet Smith Park will be temporarily closed
  • Some public car parking on the western side of the car park will be temporarily unavailable
  • Two-way traffic access will remain in place, however the driveway width adjacent to the work zone will be reduced
  • Temporary fencing, signage and traffic management will be in place for community safety

Council asks motorists and pedestrians to follow all signage and directions while works are underway.

Alternative public toilets

Nearby public toilet facilities are available at:

  • Tully Transit Centre – 76 Butler Street, Tully
  • Banyan Plaza Shopping Centre, Morris Street, Tully (subject to availability)

Why are these works needed?

The existing amenities building is ageing and no longer meets current operational and accessibility standards.

This upgrade will provide a safer, more modern and accessible facility for residents and visitors using Violet Smith Park and the surrounding Tully town centre.
