Ernest Street footpath upgrade to commence in August

Council contractors are scheduled to commence works on the Ernest Street footpath upgrade project on Monday, 3rd of August, weather permitting.
The project will replace the existing footpath with a new exposed aggregate concrete surface, along with new streetscape planting and landscaping to improve accessibility, safety and the look of the Innisfail CBD.
Works are expected to be completed by mid-December 2026, weather permitting, and will be undertaken in stages to minimise disruption.
Businesses will remain open throughout construction, with pedestrian access maintained for customers and visitors. The community is encouraged to continue supporting local businesses during the works.
Temporary parking changes will be introduced as construction progresses. During different stages of the project, selected areas will operate as 10 to 15-minute parking to support customer access and deliveries.
Vehicle access to private properties will generally be maintained throughout the project. Where temporary access restrictions are required, affected property owners will receive advance notice.
During construction, the community may notice:
- Temporary traffic management.
- Pedestrian detours around work areas.
- Construction noise during working hours.
- Temporary changes to roadside parking.
Council's Resource Recovery and Waste Services team will work directly with affected businesses to coordinate any temporary changes to waste collection arrangements.
Power, water and telecommunications services are expected to remain operational throughout the project. Any planned interruptions will be communicated in advance.
Council thanks businesses, residents and visitors for their patience and cooperation while these works are completed. Project updates will be provided throughout construction, including any changes to traffic or pedestrian access.
