Community engagement for the Cardwell Walking Network Plan is now complete, with local feedback helping shape the future of walking in Cardwell.

Over the five-week consultation period, Council heard from the community through the Your Say page, interactive mapping tool and a local workshop.

Feedback confirmed the foreshore as Cardwell’s most valued walking destination, along with a clear need for better connections, safety and comfort across the network.

As a result, the draft plan has been updated to include:

  • Stronger connections to the foreshore shared path
  • Upgrades to key routes including Gregory Street and the Bruce Highway
  • New pedestrian crossings and improved safety features
  • Additional lighting, seating and amenities along walking routes

The Cardwell Walking Network Plan is a project delivered by Cassowary Coast Regional Council in partnership with Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).

What happens next

Council will work with TMR to finalise the Walking Network Plan, which will guide future investment in walking infrastructure across Cardwell, subject to funding opportunities.

Thank you to all members of the Cardwell community who took the time to have their say and contribute to this project.
