Cassowary Coast Regional Council provides safe and reliable sewerage services to help protect public health, the environment, and the quality of life in our region.
The Sewerage Service Area defines the specific locations across the Cassowary Coast where Council’s sewer infrastructure and services are available. If your property is within a declared service area, you may be required to connect to the sewer network.
Currently, Council supplies sewerage services to properties in:
If your property is located outside the sewerage service area, onsite treatment systems (like septic tanks or aerated wastewater treatment systems) are typically required, and must meet all relevant environmental and health regulations.
If your property is within the service area and sewer is available:
Connection is mandatory for most new developments and major renovations.
Property owners are responsible for the connection from the property boundary to their dwelling.
Council is responsible for maintaining the sewer mains up to the connection point.
For new developments or subdivisions, developers may be required to extend sewerage infrastructure to service the site.
Connecting to Council’s sewerage system:
Protects waterways and groundwater from contamination.
Reduces environmental risks linked to poorly maintained onsite systems.
Provides a cost-effective, long-term solution for managing wastewater.
