Our Advocacy
Our vision is for the Cassowary Coast to be the most liveable tropical community. Our purpose is to meet the needs of current and future generations through an integration of environmental stewardship, social advancement, and economic prosperity.
Advocacy is an important strategy for helping us to achieve positive outcomes for the community, and it is a responsibility held across Council and among Councillors. Through our advocacy, we ensure that local priorities and community needs are recognised and supported at state and federal levels.
We engage with federal government, state government, other local government councils, Traditional Owners, industry, businesses, key stakeholders, and community representatives to secure the commitment, investment, and change we seek.
We engage with key partners to help us understand and address community needs and priorities, and to amplify the community’s voice.
We also engage with policy- and decision-makers to highlight the unique challenges our community faces. This includes advocating for funding, legislative changes, or policy adjustments that align with local priorities. It also includes ensuring that state and federal policies, such as those related to environmental protection or economic development, reflect the local context and do not impose undue burdens on the community.
Over the past two years, our advocacy and stakeholder engagement has been a core part of delivering on community priorities and helping us to achieve our vision of the Cassowary Coast to be the most liveable tropical community. We have secured several significant outcomes for the community, demonstrating the power of strategic collaboration and persistence. These are outlined in our Advocacy Plan 2026-27
