Work Experience

Gain hands-on experience and explore different career paths!

Cassowary Coast Regional Council offers unpaid work experience placements for school students. It’s a great way to gain practical skills and learn about different work areas through "work shadowing."

Key information about work experience

  • Available for secondary school students (at least 14 years old), TAFE students, and job seekers referred by an approved agency
  • Work experience placements are unpaid
  • Participants will gain on-the-job experience and shadow employees
  • Placements are subject to the availability of resources and department workload
  • Some areas may require specific qualifications (e.g., Blue Card for Child-Related Employment or White Card for construction).

Intake Periods

  • Block 1: February to May (applications due by 31 January)
  • Block 2: August to November (applications due by 31 July)

Please note that while Council endeavours to accommodate, placements are limited and depend on resourcing and the availability of suitable supervisors. Unfortunately, this means we may not be able to accept all applications received for each block.
