At the recent Community Cabinet meeting in Cairns on Sunday 2 March 2025, the Cassowary Coast Regional Council, presented bold initiatives designed to drive environmental sustainability and enhance community wellbeing across the region.
Mayor Teresa Millwood had discussions with Deputy Premier Hon. Jarrod Bleijie and Minister Hon. Andrew Powell, highlighting three priority areas that require urgent support: Port Hinchinbrook, community carbon and biodiversity offsets, and resource recovery.
“Our region is deeply committed to sustainability and the preservation of our unique ecosystems for future generations,” said Mayor Teresa Millwood. “By advancing key projects like Port Hinchinbrook normalisation, carbon and biodiversity offsets, and improving waste diversion, we’re creating lasting benefits for both the environment and the economy.”
