Cassowary Coast Regional Council is helping the community prepare for the upcoming cyclone season with two free Pre-Cyclone Season Clean Up events.

Residents can dispose of up to 4m³ residential general household waste (Dry Only) free of charge at the Mission Beach, Stoters Hill, Tully, and Cardwell Waste Transfer Stations during the following weekends:

  • Friday 17 – Monday 20 October 2025
  • Friday 7 – Monday 10 November 2025

As part of the clean up, disposal fees for refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners will also be waived for households – normally $20 per unit.

Mayor Teresa Millwood said the events are about supporting households to prepare and stay safe.

“Cleaning up before cyclone season helps keep our community safe by removing potential hazards from backyards.

“It’s also a great opportunity for residents to take advantage of free disposal and ensure waste is sorted correctly to maximise recycling and diversion from landfill.”

Residents are reminded that:

  • The free service applies to residential general household waste (Dry) (up to 4m³).
  • Loads larger than 4m³ will be charged at normal commercial rates.
  • Green waste and recyclables can be disposed of free at any time.
  • Normal Fees apply to all other waste types, including household wet waste (food waste etc.)

Council encourages everyone to make use of this opportunity as part of cyclone season preparedness.
