Frogs Hollow lease celebration - A shared community milestone
Published on 31 July 2026
The Cassowary Coast Regional Council is proud to announce the approval of a Material Change of Use (MCU) application, securing a 30-year lease for The Rainforest School at Frogs Hollow.
This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter for the school, which can now establish a permanent home at the site after losing its previous premises in a devastating flood several years ago.
The Rainforest School, a government-accredited independent primary school offering the full Australian Curriculum (Prep–Year 6), has been a valued part of the community.
The MCU approval safeguards the school’s long-term future and maintains Frogs Hollow as a shared community site.
This outcome is a testament to collaboration and community spirit, with children, families, Council, and the broader community all sharing in this success.
Importantly, the development of the site and associated infrastructure works on the main road will not be funded by Council rates. Instead, these projects will be supported through private funding from the school and other government funding sources.
The Frogs Hollow project has garnered strong community support, with many recognising its positive impact on access to education, sustainability, and the shared use of community spaces.
The school has worked closely with Council throughout the MCU process, fostering strong relationships with families, community groups, and local networks. The Frogs Hollow Lease Celebration event on 14 August will be the first major public celebration for this significant milestone.
It will bring together stakeholders and community members to acknowledge the collaborative efforts that have made this achievement possible.
Quote attributed to Mayor Teresa Millwood:
“This is a wonderful outcome for The Rainforest School and our community. Frogs Hollow will remain a shared space for everyone to enjoy, while also providing a secure, long-term home for a school that plays such an important role in our region. This milestone is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together for the benefit of our community. Congratulations to The Rainforest School and everyone involved in making this vision a reality.”
The Rainforest School would be pleased to have you join them for this celebration, which will include morning tea, face painting, kids' activities and creation of a time capsule to bury. See below for further details.
