We're welcoming new opportunities for investment, housing and business growth across the Cassowary Coast, with two developments approved in Mission Beach and an infrastructure charges incentive endorsed for a residential project in Innisfail.

Cassowary Coast Mayor Teresa Millwood said the decisions supported Council's vision of building the most liveable tropical community while encouraging a strong, sustainable local economy.

"We want the Cassowary Coast to be a great place to live, do business and invest, while giving visitors more ways to stay and experience everything our beautiful region has to offer," Mayor Millwood said.

"These developments are encouraging examples of investment in our region, supporting housing choice, visitor accommodation and services for our growing communities."

Developments given the green light include:

South Mission Beach tourist campground

A 74-person nature-based campground at 49 Jackey Jackey Street, accommodating tents, caravans, camper trailers and recreational vehicles, with basic amenities and a camp kitchen.

The approval includes environmental management conditions and supports opportunities to grow our visitor economy, complementing the Cassowary Coast's recognition as a certified ECO Destination.

Mission Beach car wash and storage facility

A new facility at Shepherd Close featuring automatic and self-service car washing, a dog wash, vacuum bays and 126 storage spaces, including boat and caravan storage.

Goondi Bend housing development

We've endorsed a 75% reduction in infrastructure charges, worth approximately $44,000, for an approved residential development at 12 Cedar Street, supporting two additional three-bedroom units while retaining the existing home.

The incentive forms part of Council's Development Incentives: Reduction in Infrastructure Charges Policy, designed to encourage eligible development, housing investment and economic activity across the region.

Mayor Millwood said Council was focused on creating the right conditions for investment while balancing growth with the region's environmental and community values.

"Our infrastructure charges incentives are one practical way we're helping reduce barriers to development and encourage investment in our region.

"As a certified ECO Destination, we also recognise the importance of protecting the natural environment that attracts visitors and makes our region such a special place to live.

"It's about supporting the right development, creating opportunities for local businesses and families, and ensuring the Cassowary Coast continues to grow in a way that benefits our communities."
