TILAPIA TOURNAMENT BACK FOR THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS!
Published on 09 September 2025
Council is excited to announce that the annual Tilapia Tournament will return to Warrina Lakes from Thursday, 2 October to Saturday, 4 October 2025.
This free, family-friendly fishing competition invites the community to join the fight against invasive species by helping remove Tilapia from our Warrina Lakes.
Did you know?
- Tilapia are voracious eaters, consuming plants, insects and even small native fish.
- A single tilapia can produce hundreds of young in one season, quickly outcompeting our native species.
- They damage waterways by stirring up mud while nesting, destroying habitats for native fish and aquatic life.
- They aren’t fussy! Tilapia will happily take corn, bread, worms or even pellets, which makes them easy to catch but devastating for our ecosystems.
The Tilapia Tournament is free to enter, but registration is essential. All ages are welcome, however children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Bring along your fishing gear, hat, sunscreen and water bottle and don’t miss your chance to reel in great prizes while making a positive impact on our local environment.
