Ernest Street Footpath Upgrade

Cassowary Coast Regional Council is upgrading the Ernest Street footpath as part of its Capital Works Program to renew ageing pedestrian infrastructure within the Innisfail CBD.

The project will replace the existing footpath with a new exposed aggregate concrete surface and include new streetscape planting and landscaping to improve accessibility, safety and the overall appearance of the precinct.

Construction timeframe

Construction is expected to commence in August 2026 and be completed by mid-December 2026, subject to weather and site conditions.

Works will be completed in stages to minimise disruption to businesses, residents and visitors.

What to expect

During construction you may notice:

  • Temporary traffic changes and traffic control.
  • Increased construction noise during working hours.
  • Temporary pedestrian detours around active work areas.
  • Reduced on-street parking in some locations while works are underway.

Council and the contractor will work to minimise disruptions wherever possible.

Access during construction

Council understands maintaining access is important.

Throughout the project:

  • Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained.
  • Vehicle access to private properties will generally remain available, with affected property owners notified in advance if temporary restrictions are required.
  • Some roadside parking will remain available where possible, including spaces for customer pick-up, deliveries and servicing.

Services

Power, water and telecommunications services are expected to remain operational throughout the project. Should any planned interruptions be required, affected properties will receive advance notice.

Project updates

Council will continue to provide updates throughout construction, including notifications about upcoming works and any changes to traffic or pedestrian access.
