7 February, 2022 - Reservoir Upgrade to Cardwell

Back

Cassowary Coast Regional Council is undertaking repairs to one of Cardwell’s Reservoirs to ensure structural soundness is maintained and the supply of drinking water is not at risk to the Cardwell community.

During a routine infrastructure condition inspection the reservoir was found to have moderate structural damage. Council is currently undertaking repairs to address the issues, ensuring the longevity of this reservoir and continued water security to the community.

Works have commenced and are expected to take approximately three to four weeks. During this period, there will be only one Reservoir operational in Cardwell. There is a risk that during this time, if the area receives a prolonged heavy wet weather event, the reservoir levels will reduce. This is due to isolation of our Meunga Creek supply when the water becomes dirty. If levels reduce significantly extent Council will have no option but to issue a Boil Water Notice to the community.

We sincerely thank the Cardwell community for your understanding during this time and our teams are mindful of minimising any impact on the community during the required works.

During heavy periods of rain, we ask the Cardwell community to be mindful of their water consumption and visit www.cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au/water-lets-treat-right for tips and tricks on being water wise.

We will provide ongoing updates as they occur and for further information please contact Council at 1300 763 903 or email enquiries@cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au.
